Frequently Asked Questions (with answers)

Q: We like the sound of this but don't know where to start - any ideas?
A: Yes, it can be difficult where to start but we operate using a three-stage process - what are you doing well now, what easy changes would bring quick improvements, and what do you need to do to bring lasting, sustainable development to your school and its community. So, just contact us and we can help find out where to begin.
Q: What are the costs?
A: Because we are a non-profit organisation with a mission to help all learners and their school communities, we try to tailor our costs to the school and the individuals requesting help. So, please ask, let's discuss and then we can see what we can do. There is help we can give you from free to full price.
Q: I'd like to join a course but am not sure which one is best for me. What do you suggest?
A: You can read the course descriptions here, however as a basic guideline, the Community Coach Process (COMING SOON) is for educators who are looking to lead the transformation in the school and need to understand more about developing a learning community and coaching their community members towards learner-development-centred approaches to education and the identification, creation and utilisation of opportunities for learner development.
The Community Catalyst Process (COMING SOON)is for those educators who already feel comfortable in helping young people become self-developing holistic learners and want to go further and share their action research and expertise with others. The EDUTT Educator-Teacher Transformation Process helps teachers new to learner-development-centred approaches to education. The OMoLeT Process is for teenagers 11-18 who want to know how to transition from just being a student to becoming a real learner for life and learn how to start making the most of school and their life.
Q: Would you help us with our curriculum?
A: Yes, we are currently working on a curriculum review process with a group of schools. We consider the curriculum to be everything that is experienced in the school to do with learning and teaching - written curriculum, taught curriculum and learned curriculum as well as the hidden, the assessed, the null curricula. We are happy to help you transform your school via a curriculum transformation or to simply reword your documents to give you some inspiration.
Q: How can you help us during these difficult times?
A: These are difficult times however, our attitude is that difficult times bring opportunities for innovation, reflection and time for transformation. Usually, we would work through a blended approach - working with school community members through the internet, providing self-study and coached processes and then through face-to-face visits and workshops, followed up by coaching and mentoring online. In these times we just have to do the face-to-face parts online also.
Q: Can you just tell us how to transform our school?
A: Yes, however, this is a misleading answer. Our big aim is to help you transform your school. That can't be done by telling you what to do in a way that you rely on us to know what to do. The whole point of a coaching process is to help you understand and identify what you need to do. That way, there will come a point when you don't need us to tell you, you will be telling us!
Q: Can I work for DRL?
A: We receive a lot of requests for this and we are interested in creating DRL centres globally. It's early days though and funding would be needed. We are interested in anyone who would like to become a DRL representative who could make their own work that we could support and see where it could lead us.
Q: Can our school become a DRL Learning Community?
A: Yes, we are exploring this possibility now and are interested in any school interested in piloting the process towards qualifying as a DRL Learning Community.
